During these uncertain times with the COVID-19 pandemic, governments have declared state of emergencies and asked that everyone self isolates to reduce the spread of the virus. We all have to accept the drastic change this has on our daily lives. In order not to go stir crazy, we have to keep ourselves entertained, which is why I’ve created a list of 12 date night ideas you could be doing with your significant other during these times of social distancing.
1. Netflix and Chill
I’m sure everyone has seen the saying, “Your grandparents were asked to go to war. You are being asked to sit on a couch. You can do this.” We can do this now more than ever. In respect of social distancing everyone is being asked to self isolate at home. With all the streaming services, such as HBO, Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime or Hulu, this has never been easier to do. Find a movie or a new series that you and your significant other can cuddle up on the couch and watch.
2. Take a Virtual Tour
Even though Theaters and Museums have been closed to the public they have now started offering live streams and virtual tours which you can watch from the comfort for your home. Virtually walk through the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, or the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. Take in a performance form The Metropolitan Opera or the Opera de Paris. You can even watch Broadway shows using Broadway HD. Watch live concerts from John Legend, Pink and other musical artists. No matter what, the show must go on and since we can’t get out to see them, they’re bringing the shows to us!
3. Cook Dinner Together
With the closures of all bars and restaurants, except for those offering take-out and delivery, you can take this opportunity to do something that you may not usually do together, such as cook a fancy dinner. Thankfully grocery stores are still open, so find a recipe the both of you like and head to the grocery store and stock up on everything you need to make your delicious meal. Also remember to continue supporting your local restaurants by ordering in meals during this time.
4. Play Board/ Card Games
Cabin fever is going to become a real issue. So switch up your daily routine so you don’t get bored. Instead of sitting in front of your TV and playing video games against one another like you normally would, dust off those classic board games you have hidden away in your closet, and brush up on your favorite card games. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone and it’ll be healthy in times like these.
5. Slow Dance
This is something so special that you may feel a little silly doing. Think as if you’re reliving a scene from an old classic movie. Find a romantic playlist on Youtube or Spotify and get lost in a loving embrace while dancing in your kitchen or living room. Get a little fancy and throw in some twirls and dips. I promise by the end you’ll be laughing and smiling. Just remember to “Dance like no one’s watching.”
6. Build a Fort
Growing up, my sister and I would build the most amazing forts by using all of the cushions on our family’s sofa. I had quite frankly forgotten how much fun we used to have doing this until I recently started building forts again my fiancé’s little cousin. Get creative and build a fort in front of your TV and see how long it can stay standing. Grab some blankets, make some popcorn and watch a movie from inside your cozy fort.
7. Have a Picnic
Spring is here and the last thing we want to do is stay indoors in self isolation. Especially when the days are getting longer, everything is starting to bloom and temperatures are getting warmer. For those that aren’t so lucky, and don’t have a balcony or a backyard, place a blanket down in front of a sunny window, open it up to let in some fresh air, and enjoy a picnic just like you would outside, only inside.
8. Stay Fit and Get Outside
Due to the closure of public gyms, many people are worried about not being able to exercise for an indefinite amount of time. Even though we are being asked to stay indoors we can still go outside and take a daily walk or run. Look up on Youtube workout videos you and your significant other can being doing at home. Set daily goals to stay fit together. No matter what stay motivated and continue to exercise and get outdoors.
9. Give Each Other Massages
Self care is very important right now and we all need to take care of each other. People have been super stressed during these past few days which is understandable with how quickly everything has been evolving. Pamper each other with a massage. Grab some stress relieving essential oils, light some deliciously scented candles, turn on some relaxing music and massage each others worries away.
10. Take a Bubble Bath Together
Who doesn’t love bubble baths? Well I definitely do and I would recommend using the bubble bars from Lush. The Rose Jam Bubbleroon is my favorite and the amount of bubbles it creates with only using half of the bar is insane. Light some candles, put on some music and relax in a rose scented luxurious bath.
11. Have Breakfast in Bed
Since we can’t really go out for brunch anymore why not have it in bed. Have a lazy Sunday in, make yourselves some mimosas and whip up a delicious meal of pancakes, bacon and eggs to enjoy while watching a movie in bed.
12. Create a Bucket List for the Future
No matter what, remain positive throughout all of this. This is something we will all overcome together and we must continue to look towards the future and make plans. Take this opportunity to put together a list of all the things you would like to do once this crisis has passed. Where would you like to travel, what new skill would you like to learn, etc.? Put down anything. Life is too short not to live out our dreams and goals.
I hope everyone enjoys these date night ideas I put together. Wishing everyone stays safe and healthy during this time. This will all be over before we know it, but until then, keep yourselves busy so as not to go crazy.
