During these uncertain times with the COVID-19 pandemic, governments have declared state of emergencies and asked that everyone self isolates to reduce the spread of the virus. We all have to accept the drastic change this will have on our daily lives. In order not to go stir crazy, we have to keep ourselves entertained. Which is why I’ve created a list of 12 date night ideas you could be doing with your significant other while staying at home and social distancing.
12 date night ideas during covid-19
1. Netflix and Chill
I’m sure everyone has seen the saying, “Your grandparents were asked to go to war. You are being asked to sit on a couch. You can do this.” We can do this, especially now more than ever. With all the streaming services, such as HBO, Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime or Hulu, this has never been easier to do. Find a movie or a new TV series to cuddle up and watch together.
2. Take a Virtual Tour
Theaters and Museums have now started offering live streams and virtual tours you can watch from the comfort of your home. Virtually walk through the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, or the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. Take in a performance form The Metropolitan Opera or the Opera de Paris. You can even watch Broadway shows using Broadway HD. Watch live concerts from John Legend, Pink and other musical artists. No matter what, the show must go on and since we can’t get out to see them, they’re bringing the shows to us!
3. Cook Dinner Together
Take this opportunity to do something that you may not usually do together, such as cook a fancy dinner. Find a recipe the both of you like, head to the grocery store and stock up on everything you need. Set the table, light some candles and put on some romantic dinner music. To make it feel like a true date night, dress up as if you were going out to a restaurant. If cooking’s not your thing, order a nice meal from one of your favorite local restaurants and transfer the food onto nice dinner plates to enjoy.
4. Play Board/ Card Games
Cabin fever is going to become a real issue and by switching up your daily routine will ensure you don’t get bored. Instead of always sitting in front of your TV and playing video games against one another, dust off those classic board games you have hidden away in your closest or brush up on your favorite card games. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone and in times like these it’ll be healthy.
5. Slow Dance
Relive the scene from The Notebook where Noah asks Allie to slow dance in the middle of the street. Instead of dancing in the street, dance in your kitchen or living room. Find a romantic playlist on your favorite music streaming app and get lost in a loving embrace. Impress your partner with some fancy moves, such as twirls and dips. I promise that by the end, the both of you will be laughing and smiling. Just“Dance like no one’s watching.”
6. Build a Fort
Growing up, my sister and I would build the most amazing forts by using all of the cushions on our family’s sofa. I had quite frankly forgotten how much fun we used to have building these until I recently built a fort my fiancé’s little cousin. Get creative and build a fort in front of your TV. Grab some blankets, make some popcorn and enjoy watching a movie from inside your cozy fort.
7. Have a Picnic
On nice days the last thing we want to do is stay indoors in self isolation. Especially when the days are getting longer, temperatures are getting warmer, and everything is starting to bloom. For those that aren’t so lucky, and don’t have a balcony or a backyard, head to your local park to get some fresh air, and enjoy a lovely picnic.
8. Stay Fit and Get Outside
Due to the closures of public gyms, many people are worried about not being able to exercise for an indefinite amount of time. Look up workout videos on Youtube that you and your significant other can do together and set some daily goals for each other. Even though we are being asked to stay indoors we can still go outside to take a daily walk or run. No matter what stay motivated, continue to exercise and get outdoors.
9. Give Each Other Massages
Self care is extremely important right now and we all need to remember to not only continue to take care of ourselves but each other as well. Grab some stress relieving essential oils, light some deliciously scented candles, turn on some relaxing music and massage each others worries away.
10. Take a Bubble Bath Together
Who doesn’t love bubble baths? Well I definitely do and I recommend using the bubble bars from Lush. The Rose Jam Bubbleroon is my favorite and the amount of bubbles it creates with only using half of the bar is insane. Light some candles, put on some music and relax in a rose scented luxurious bath together.
11. Have Breakfast in Bed
Since we can’t really go out for brunch anymore why not have it in bed. Lazy Sunday mornings are the best for this, make yourselves some mimosas, whip up a delicious meal of pancakes, bacon and eggs and enjoy it in bed.
12. Create a Bucket List for the Future
No matter what, continue to look towards the future. This will all be over soon and when it is people are going to make up for lost time. Life is too short not to live out our dreams and goals. So take this opportunity to put together a list of all the things you would like to do once life gets back to normal. Where would you like to travel, what new skill would you like to learn, etc.? Put down absolutely everything and anything that comes to mind.
I hope everyone enjoys these 12 date night ideas I put together. During this time, I wish you all continue to stay safe and healthy!
